Let’s Get Healthy, America!

In the case of America’s health report card, our nation has been demonstrating the symptoms of a national health crisis prior to the COVID pandemic. In fact, the prevalence of asthma, chronic kidney disease, COPD, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, multiple chronic conditions, obesity, and cancer among our citizens has been rising in crisis proportion since the early 2000’s.

There are many factors that cause illness, and additional factors that compromise immunity and the body’s ability to fight infection. As a medical doctor and a naturopath Dr. Carolyn Dean has committed her life’s work to identifying the factors that are the basis for disease and addressing those issues with the appropriate remedies.

Magnesium Deficiency Public Health Crisis

Concurrent to this epidemic of chronic disease is the rise in nutritional deficiencies that are at the foundation of our public health crisis.

In 2017, Dr. Dean wrote a comprehensive article outlining the 65 conditions related to magnesium deficiency knowing that magnesium deficiency is just one piece of the nutritional deficiency puzzle followed by other vitamin and mineral deficiencies such as vitamin D, zinc, and iodine.

Comorbidity Defined

This year the term comorbidity has become central to our public health awareness. Comorbidity means more than one disease/condition is present in a person at a time. For example, if a person is diagnosed with high blood pressure and anxiety they have co-morbid disorders. Other conditions that are seen to overlap include physical ailments such as diabetes, cardiovascular illness, cancer, infectious diseases, and dementia. Mental disorders that tend to show comorbidity also include eating disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse.

Ushering In A New Awareness

What is not medically recognized is that our citizens exist in a world where multiple nutritional deficiencies create comorbidities – a perfect storm leaving us in a public health crisis that must be solved at the individual level for it’s the individual that makes up the statistics that drive our very poor health outcomes in this country.

As a people, as a country, we must incorporate a new approach to health and vitality in the days to come. American’s need a Total Body ReSet.
